Cross-Country

Cross-country skiing returns after a one day hiatus with the men's and women's 1.5km individual sprint. The sprint made its Olympic debut in the Salt Lake Games in 2002 and will be raced in the classical discipline this year. The Americans have never won a medal in this event. The top American female hopeful is Kikkan Randall. She has won the sprint event at the U.S. Championship four times in her career. A freestyle specialist, Randall would do well to make the semifinals and finish in the top 15 in this classic-style event.  On the men's side, Andy Newell is the top American sprinter.  A former national champion in the event, Newell will have a good opportunity to reach the finals and possibly end up on the podium.

Ohno skates for more than 300 million

He remembers the feeling. In 2002, Apolo Ohno was racing in front of a home crowd that was in need of a happy ending. His USA uniform is a reminder.
