Medals in the men's and women's team sprint are at stake today in
cross-country. The event made it's debut in 2006 and this year it will be raced in the freestyle discipline. This may be the American's best shot at a cross-country medal in Vancouver. The event is contested as a relay consisting of two competitors on each team who alternate skiing three laps each. The women's team is led by four-time U.S. sprint champion
Kikkan Randall. She will race with
Caitlin Compton, who is making her Olympic debut. Compton had a season best 32nd place finish in a World Cup sprint event this past December in Slovenia. The men's team is led by former U.S. sprint champion
Andy Newell. He's be joined by
Torin Koos, a sprint specialist who landed on the podium at a 2007 World Cup event in Estonia. This will mark Koos' third Olympic Games.
