His name isn't as well known as Apolo Ohno, but if Denton's Jordan Malone wins a gold medal, he, too, could become a household name.

"I don't know his name, but I just heard about him last night," said Lucy Warren, of Denton.

Malone will skate on Wednesday at the Vancouver Games in a relay race, and the speed skater is hoping to do better than his Saturday performance, when he was disqualified for bumping another skater.

Back home in Denton, residents are starting to become fans of the speed skater, even if they don't know much about him.

"He's in two speed skating events, but I don't know the distance. It's all short rack and relay," said Jamie Napier.

Malone is keeping in contact with friends and fans via Twitter and Facebook, giving updates on his races and even taking fans behind the scenes with various Olympic athletes.
