In February 2010, Vancouver will become the second Canadian city, after Calgary in 1988, to stage the Olympic Winter Games. Of the 20 previous Winter Games, 14 have taken place in Europe, four in North America, and two in Asia (both Japan). World War II forced their cancellation in 1940 and 1944.
