Czech Republic is landlocked in central Europe, bordered by Slovakia to the east, Poland to the northeast, Germany to the northwest and west, and Austria to the south. With Slovakia, it had formed the Republic of Czechoslovakia from October 28, 1918 until January 1, 1993, when the two became independent republics.

Czech Republic: Olympic Tradition

The Czech Republic was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1993 and made its first Winter Games appearance in Lillehammer 1994. Seven of the Czech Republic's 10 medals have come in cross-country skiing.

Czech Republic: Vancouver Outlook

The Czech Republic won four medals in Torino and appears poised to increase that number in Vancouver with medals likely in cross-country skiing and speed skating.
