China is located in eastern Asia, and is home to more than one-fifth of the world's population. It is also geographically the world's fourth-largest country, after Russia, Canada and the United States.
China first entered Winter Olympic competition in 1980 and has been represented at every Winter Games since. Twenty of the 33 Winter Olympic medals won by China have come in short track speed skating.
China is geared for a strong medal showing in Vancouver. Chinese athletes could sweep certain events, such as women's aerials and pairs figure skating.
