Q: What is Microsoft Silverlight?
A: Silverlight is a lightweight, cross-platform web browser plug-in from Microsoft that enables rich multimedia experiences like the Enhanced Mode player on nbcolympics.com. You can learn more about Microsoft Silverlight at http://silverlight.net.

Q: I have Silverlight 2 installed on my machine. Do I need to upgrade?
A: Yes. The NBC Olympics video player uses new features only available in Silverlight 3. Silverlight is a small download and installs quickly. Silverlight 3 is backwards-compatible with Silverlight 1 and 2.

Q: Why do I need to restart my browser after installing Silverlight?
A: Some users will be prompted to restart their browsers if they are upgrading from a previous version of Silverlight. In most cases, users will not have to restart their web browsers after installing Silverlight.

Q: How do I uninstall Microsoft Silverlight?

Q: I have run the Silverlight installation program several times but the website is asking me to install again.
A: Some users will not be able to upgrade Silverlight due to their OS settings. If you are seeing this issue then you should follow these steps:

  1. Uninstall Silverlight as described by this Silverlight support page: http://support.microsoft.com/silverlight#tab3
  2. Restart your computer
  3. Visit http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/index.html
  4. Click on any of the videos
  5. When prompted, install Silverlight again
  6. When installation is complete, restart your browser
  7. Return to http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/index.html

Q: I am experiencing issues playing video, does it matter that I have blocked 3rd party cookies.
A: Yes, you will need to unblock 3rd party cookies, in order to view video.  In current versions of Firefox, for instance, follow these steps:

  1. In the Firefox menu bar, go to Tools > Options 
  2. In the Options screen, select Privacy
  3. Make sure that both "Accept cookies from sites" and "Accept third-party cookies" are checked.
  4. In the "Keep until:" dropdown, select either "they expire" or "I close Firefox"
  5. Click OK to close the Options screen.
  6. Force-reload the page by doing Shift-Reload (Hold down the Shift key on the keyboard, while clicking the Reload button in the browser's button bar.)
  7. The videos should now play successfully
Q: I get a "Video not loading" error that doesn't go away, what do I do.
  1. Check you 3rd party cookies. You need them enabled (in Firefox, Chrome and Safari you set it directly, in IE you need to set a privacy level of "Medium High" or lower)
  2. Check to see if you have an anti-virus, anti-malware or other proxy software (such as Net Nanny) running on your machine or corporate/campus network that may be blocking (or impacting) access to the streams
  3. Check that you can open MSN.
 
 
Q: I am experiencing issues playing video using Safari on OSX 10.4 "Tiger".
A: Because of an issue in how some types of cookies are handled in this combination of browser and operating system that means we are not able to correctly authenticate your access to the video content we recommend that you use Firefox or upgrade to a more recent version of OSX.

Q: What is premium Olympic video content?
A: NBCOlympics.com will offer premium live coverage and full event replay video of the Vancouver Games.

Q: When is this premium content going to be available?
A: Live coverage and full event replays will be available starting February 13th, 2010.

Q: What does the registration process involve? Is it time consuming?
A: It’s a quick and simple one-time process. At NBCOlympics.com, select your cable, satellite or IPTV provider from a dropdown list. You will then be required to login as you would to manage your home cable, satellite or IPTV provider account, access email, etc.

Q: How will I know if I am registered?
A: After successfully validating your subscription to your cable, satellite or IPTV provider, a confirmation will appear on screen, in addition to a link to enter the Vancouver Sweepstakes.

Q: Do I need to pay to access this online coverage? Is there a fee?
A: If you are a subscriber of a participating cable, satellite or IPTV provider, there is no fee to access this premium content.

Q: If I don’t register, will I be able to view any online Olympics coverage on NBCOlympics.com?
A: Yes. You will still be able to view exclusive Highlights, Recaps, Interviews, News, Results, Features Athlete Bios, Photo Galleries and other content at NBCOlympics.com. You just won’t be able to view live and full event replay video.

Q: Can I access this live and full event replay coverage online somewhere else other than NBCOlympics.com without registering?
A: This online coverage is exclusive to NBCOlympics.com and isn’t available on another Web site.
