Getting to know: Shaun White

A widely-celebrated figure before winning gold in Torino, Shaun White has since become an action sports icon, unmistakable in part due to his trademark shock of red hair... Though the two-sport star (skateboarding, snowboarding) now navigates a multi-million dollar empire, life has not always been glamorous... Among other obstacles, White was born with a heart defect that required two major surgeries.

    Who am I?

As the pilot for the USA-1 bobsled, I broke a 62-year gold medal drought when my sled, the 'Night Train" won the Olympic title at the 2010 Vancouver Games. A degenerative eye condition nearly caused me to quit my sport in 2008, but corrective surgery restored my vision to 20-20.
