Domnina and Shabalin won their first world title in 2009 after skipping the 2008 Worlds due to Maksim's ongoing knee problems...Maksim has had three surgeries, the latest coming in spring 2008...The pair trains in Aston, Penn. alongside Americans Tanith Belbin & Ben Agosto, who will be among their top challengers for Olympic gold in Vancouver.

As the pilot for the USA-1 bobsled, I broke a 62-year gold medal drought when my sled, the 'Night Train" won the Olympic title at the 2010 Vancouver Games. A degenerative eye condition nearly caused me to quit my sport in 2008, but corrective surgery restored my vision to 20-20.
